Welcome to Sprite’s World
Dive inside Philharmonia Fantastique to gain a deeper understanding of the orchestra through visual storytelling and hands-on activities.
Information for Educators
This site is designed to accompany either the live concert experience or the film itself. It supports the 2014 Music Standards and their focus on Music Literacy. It provides opportunities to make connections to the core concepts of Creating, Responding, and Performing, while focusing on the Enduring Understandings outlined for PreK – 8th grade General Music.
The materials also provide opportunities to build and deepen connections to Social and Emotional Learning and are deliberately grounded in The Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning’s (CASEL) five competencies of SEL: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.
Meet the Families
Discover the unique sounds, key characteristics and acoustics of each instrument family. Once you’ve explored each section, download the activity sheet and describe the families in your own words.
Meet the Instruments
Digital baseball cards to introduce you to individual instruments in the orchestra. Interactive cards allow you to listen to each instrument and printable cards are available to decorate your classroom or home.
Meet Sprite
Philharmonia Fantastique’s composer and co-creator, Mason Bates, introduces you to the film’s hero: Sprite. Sprite was created using different instruments from all the families of the orchestra. Learn more about them and then then create your own Sprite biopoem.
Activity – Coloring Sheets
Let your imagination fly! Using colored pencils, glue, and materials at hand, design your own sprite and decorate the instruments.
